pray for my cam chain pls

Hi all

i recently bought me a 2002 2.2 astra coupe and im within the affected range so im scared.
Car has done 37k miles, if it was to snap do u have an idea at what mileage? Listening carefully every day shitting my pants !! 🙁

And lets say it snaps , if u have the proof it was oil nozzle but warranty has been over for years can u still get a good deal like a new engine payed by vxl?

I live in belgium so for me its actually opel. Im going to dealership this week to hear what they have to say bout it. But i bet they'll say "car is not in affected range" or "that problem doesnt exist in belgium" or some other bs like that.

Any tips on what i should say or ask? Hope some of u guys can help me, greetings

well all i can say is ...i know how you feel i was in exactly the same boat as you. In my case i was getting sleepless nights so i opted to get the work done through the local dealer (at considerable cost i may add). Now i am emailing and writing to vauxhall constantly untill they get fed up with me and admit there is a problem, if i get anything back it will be a bonus! Also mine when changed looked ok although it did have the 1mm nozzle on it, but this is all about peace of mind so you can get into the car and drive it, instead of spending your time listening to the engine and crapping yourself!

The worst case senario is you will have to foot the bill, but its better than risking it and it going bang!

average mileage for failure is 41k

this is because of the service at 40k, it must disturb something in the oil system and then the jet blocks

book service intervals are 20k, so 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 etc

my book says every once a year or every 30 000 kms

this means every 18750 miles

Anywayz i have news on the cam chain. I went to Opel dealer and i asked about it and said i heard they had a recall on these engines about the cam chain. And that i wanted some info bout it, what the problem exactly was, how they solve it, etc..

They told me thats true for the 2.2 petrol engines !!! taking it in on thursday so they can check car, check if rework has been done and if not i think they will do it free of charge !

They didnt have time for it today cuz garage closes at 5pm and since im done with work at 4pm i arrived there at 4u 50pm.
My dad will drive it there on thursday and i hope Opel can prove that if GM wants they can give good service afterall.

have an update on cam chain issue

Turned out the mechanic that told me it was guna be for free was wrong. Car went in to change language of bc with tech2 and then the manager came in and said he would only do the rework for free if its for a car bought at his place. wtf..
And since i imported the car from germany this obviously isnt the case.

All happened while i was at work and my dad didnt ask anything else about it. So guna go back and ask what it will cost me if i pay for it. If its alot then ima have to get in touch with Opel Belgium for further info about this. noth.

new update:

i went to another dealer cuz my car has been noisy lately. It really sounds like a diesel just not that loud. and since my coupe used to be the most quiet engine i ever had i immediatly noticed. No real loud rattling noises on startup though but anywayz the other dealer listened to it and filed a request to Opel to install new cam chain kit under warranty and today they called me back: it has been accepted ! Opel will pay for all the parts and for 3 hrs of work.

If they have more work on it i have to pay for the extra workhours but i dont think it'll be much so i accepted. Its going in tomorrow morning so i'll finally have peace of mind.

Does this sound like a good deal or not? cheers

My cam chain broke down - I need help

I own an Opel Vectra B (Z22SE engine) produced in 2001. My cam chain broke down at 40000 km. The damages produced in the engine are extremely costly. I would really apreciate receiving info on how to deal with this issue.

i got my car back yesterday. I payed 25 euro for the oil that they changed + 1 extra work hour wich is 50 euro so 75 euro + 21% VAT = less then 100 euro. Im happy now ! No more worrying.
