CD and DVD player not working?

Really need some help here guys. I upgraded my mates Media Player on his PC the other day and now his CD and Dvd players are not working. You can eject both of them and they take in the disc no probs, but the pop up screen doesn't come up asking what you want to do with the disc eg play, burn etc. I had a listen and it doesn't even sound like the discs are spinning up. By the way the CD and DVD players are separate units in the tower. Had a poke around in the settings and it says that the drivers are there but the hardware is disconnected!? The hardware has not been touched and the tower has not even been moved. I could really do with sorting this as he is really pissed at me! what.. notsure.gif Its windows XP by the way.

Try going into Control Panel -> Add New Hardware. See if it picks them back up.

Failing that, are you able to do a System Restore to before you upgraded his Media Player? What version did you upgrade him to?

Have you tried enabling the device.

Right click my computer and then select the hardware tab, then select device manager.

Look for the CD/DVD-Rom drives and select the little cross, then right click on the drive and select properties and under general make sure the option device usage is enabled.

Just had a look and it said I am running the most resent version of player ( 10 ) Will have another look around tomorrow, im off to get some zzzz

It's still in the beta stage, so it's not just as simple as an upgrade.

Got 11 now, looks kind of nice, cheers. Also went round mates today, turned out he had system restore turned off! Then tried to search for new hardware and no joy there, just kept saying hardware not there or broken! He then said that loads of things have not been working like printer and scanner but these didn't work before I started playing with it thank god. Apparently he has a virus problem which hes getting sorted next week. Ill have another look when it comes back to see if its virus related.

Well that says a lot then really. That could be causing all sorts of issues.
