So finished the upgraded heater install over the weekend 🙂

I used the original heater box wiring loom and modified it to fit the upgraded heater, looks much neater :cool:

I forgot to refit the wiper motor cover before I took the pictures :rolleyes:

I also found that where the wheel locking nut normally fits is a perfect sized hole for my CTEK adaptor socket, okay there are gaps either side but I don't care :ROFLMAO:

I have also purchased these genuine VX220 stainless sill covers, but until I have an engine to move the car out of my garage I cannot fit them :rolleyes:

My custom 90mm pistons have finally reached the pre-production phase, so hopefully they will be made next week 😃

I am really getting fed up with the pistons, almost seven weeks and they haven't even started making them yet (n)

Still made some billet parts for the block, the oil return blank and a crank sensor blank

quite a bit of work required to make the crank sensor blank, started with a 63mm alloy bar ....

small update;
Because I'm bored waiting for the pistons I decided to use the vx220 oil cooler on the new engine rather than the Saab oil cooler, no real reason just something to do :rolleyes:

The block needed a blanking plate to block off the oilways where the saab oil cooler used to fit, plus I needed a take off for the oil pressure gauge

original oil cooler simply fits straight back on

ps: almost nine weeks from first ordering the pistons (n)

They have given me a date for completion of 27th Nov, then they have to be shipped over and clear customs :banghead:

They had better be good for $950 o_O

Decided to fit the block so I can modify everything to fit the latest oil cooler set up, I had to slightly modify the new blanking plate because it touched the gearbox - just needed to file 1mm off a certain point to clear the bellhousing.
I then had to move the oil pressure light sensor wire back to the original vx220 position, this is because the vx220 oil cooler uses the normal oil pressure light sensor location and the switch is moved to the oil cooler adaptor.
I also altered the mounting for the oil pressure gauge sender unit and shortened the loom for the DaviesCraig controller temperature sender, which is now on the end of the cylinder head (next to where the egr valve usually sits on a z22se head).

located an original vx220 coolant hose for between the vx220 oil cooler and thermostat (thanks Lee_vx220), so fitted that along with a few tweaks to the electric water pump pipework. Just need to make a new bracket to hold the electric water pump steady and fit an elbow fitting to the oil pressure gauge feed, the flexi hose would rub on the coolant pipe otherwise and thats not a good idea :rolleyes:

So once the pump bracket is made the block can come back out and gather more dust waiting for the pistons to arrive :banghead:

Having previously modified the factory sump baffle I decided to add an anti-surge baffle plate as well 🙂

I didn't want anything too complicated so just added an alloy plate riveted to the original baffle. There is roughly a 4-5 mm gap between the new baffle plate and the sump, this is to allow the oil to still reach the oil pickup.

so today I made a bracket to support the electric water pump.

Decided to give it some strength, so folded over the edges and welded them up, added some holes to make it lighter and finally a coat of paint :cool:

emailed them yesterday and they are almost done, so still waiting and it's ten weeks today 🙁

The oil pressure gauge elbow fitting arrived today, so fitted that - the braided hose is well out of the way now. I had little choice but to mount it where it is because thats where the main oil pressure feed is located.
I also got some better quaility fuel hose today to replace a section I added a few years ago, the last piece I bought from a motor factors and it went hard so was starting to leak at the fpr join :rolleyes:
Also finally trimmed the alloy rear bulkhead I fitted behind the seats, looks much better in black cloth :cool:

So hardly anything else left to do now until the pistons arrive, even then the block has to go away to be machined, so will be next year before any more progress actually happens :sleep:
