a dodgy egr valve will still need replacing - the ecu monitors the movement of the valve head via a potentiometer 🙁
any potential extra power comes from removing the restriction in the inlet duct
as for the merits of the egr, they don't fit them in the usa and it appears even vx are bypassing them
