Although having problems rebuilding an old 2.0 vecky i picked up recentley , there is some good news on the vauxhall front. My sisters 2.2 snapped the chain after only doing 40k something miles. After much wrangling and threats of court (it does help that my sisters other half is a lawyer) they have agreed to a complete engine replacent with vaux paying 90% of the bill. All i can advise anyone else who has this problem is to mail me [cphaza2@yahoo.co.uk](mailto:cphaza2@yahoo.co.uk) and i will run you through exactley how we went about it. I ended up stripping the chain cover and taking off the blocked oil feed (while being videoed i might add) then blew through it showing it was blocked (still on video) so when vauxhall said there is no problem with this engine blah blah blah we offered to email them the video of what we found. They came straight back with the 90% offer. Seeing as the car is now 5 years old (was 51 reg realy that long ago? !) we figured that was a good deal.
The thing is, if i hadnt happened to call my sister that night about a totally different matter, she would never have heard about this problem and would have taken it to her local vaux garage and got stung for a couple of grand. Makes me wonder how many other people who are ignorant of this problem have unwittingley shelled out £££££ to get it fixed over the years.
SOMEONE TELL ME AGAIN WHY I AM STILL DRIVING VAUXHALLS.... i must be mad
