if you were to blank off the egr valve thus leaving it in place then you just block off the port for exhaust manifold, as the egr valve lever drops down into the port for the inlet side then you cannot block this off as the egr valve would throw up a fault, the earlier vxhall engines allowed you to block it off using the bottom of a tin can cos the lever rose up rather than down into the port
to block it off completely you just get a blanking plate and use the existing gasket and leave the egr valve hanging somewhere but still plugged into the loom to stop the ecu throwing up codes
the egr cheater was produced not to blank off the egr valve but to replace a faulty EGR valve as they are quite expensive to replace if buying brand new
the use of an egr cheater and blanking plate is a logical solution if the egr valve is throwing up fault codes, it is more personal preference if the egr valve is functioning correctly
