I got the kit for the YH.

I am assuming the blackness might be due to the wife's driving. I don't think she is getting it up to temp often enough.

Another question for people in the know.

Does 2nm make a great deal of difference when torquing the bolts. My torque wrench starts at 10nm and there are quite a few bolts that need only 8nm. Should I get a smaller torque wrench as well?

A smaller torque wrench would be ideal but they are quite expensive - best not to overtighten bolts.

Most of the balance and timing guide rail bolts are 10 Nm (or more) but ensure the threads are dry before torqueing, otherwise you'll get a false reading from the torque wrench, as wet threads require less torque than dry threads. 🙂

Looking on TIS, I can't see any other bolts that require tightening to just 8 Nm.

Are you renewing the balance chain sprockets?

Yes, the 8nm are for the balance chain sprockets.

Obviously to angle tighten the balance shaft sprockets a further 30° after the 8Nm requires a torque angle gauge. However, with the engine insitu there's probably not enough room for one, but you could do it accurately.

If you imagine a clock face then 30° is from one hand on the 12 moved round to the 1. 🙂

Finally gotten around to getting this done.

Chains done, no refitting the covers.

What are the torque settings for the rocker cover and the chain cover?

Also for the sump bolts. I'll have to do that once the engine mount is back on and engine mounted.

First:

Lower Crankcase to Block Perimeter Bolt
25 N·m
18 lb ft

or this:

Install the timing case.
Note: Remove the cloth from the opening in the timing case.
• Use a new gasket.
• Tightening torque 21 Nm
• Install a new crankshaft front oil seal (2)
