Odd noise at low revs.

I know it's hard to explain a noise but if i accelarate hard at low revs (1800rpm) i get a noise that sounds like someone putting twig into a spinning bike wheel. It really resonates into the cabin.

I only get this in when i really should be in a lower gear. but has got worse over the last few months.

P.S the car has done 58K and the chain has been replaced.

Can anyone shed any light on what it may be?

Could possibly be ure exhaust manfold blowing m8...That sounds abit like u described..

Cheers for the reply, What kind of price am i looking at if it needes replacing?

I'd chk the tightness of the manifold stud and nuts to start m8,they are prone to coming loose,
I had the same on mine,replaced the studs,nuts and gasket,cost me bout £15 from memory..
If the manifold is cracked tho as they do sometimes,i'm not sure on the cost..
