High oil consumption.

Would a faulty Maf on a Signum Z22YH cause low Mpg (33) and high oil consumption (1 litre per 100 miles)?
Black soot in exhaust but no smoke.
Engine runs ok apart from slow acceleration until about 3000 revs.
Confused.

thats quite excessive oil consumption, could be a faulty MAF, blocked cat or stretched chains

Probably the timing chain stretched which on the YH can throw the timing out slightly due to the exhaust sprocket having a timing sensor incorporated, so it looks like it's time to renew the chains! 🙂

Just checked the compression.
18, 18, 18, 12.
Put some oil in number 4 and it went up to 16.
Knackered rings???
Oil consumption wasn't as bad as I thought. Oil level switch must be faulty. Couldn't check the level as the bottom of the dipstick has snapped off again.

So if the lower end of the dipstick is broken and can't check the oil level, how can you possibly estimate the oil consumption?:LOL:

Easy. I borrowed the dipstick of another car when I got home from my holidays.

Does that mean you have two broken pieces of dipstick floating around in the sump?

Yes but not floating. They're metal hopefully lying in the bottom of the sump.
Need to drop the sump soon as the oil level sensor is knackered. Keeps telling me the oil level is low.

Hopefully they're not obstructing the oil pick-up tube.
