Chain dips

ok so o fitted a brand new gm chain kit to my build and just after compression stroke the change dips between the cam gears, when you look down at tensioner you can see it is getting pushed back in as chain dips.
I robbed this pic from another thread as mine is same type of thing

I swapped my tensioner for my old one and everything seems fine so I guess it's the new tentioner at fault, but does anyone no if it's common for a new one to fail I can push the plunger in by hand not much resistance

I think you got to open the tensioner up. Remove circlip take out plunger and then you twist the other end of the plunger with a screwdriver .
Then put it back together with a little oil in there, That's how i done mine i'm sure over a year ago. In fact i think that's what you need to do to activate them.

if you have uprated valve springs it will do something similar at certain points when turned over by hand.

I pushed it against the wall befor I installed it to activate it and the plunger did come out but I'll have a go the way you said also cheers

I thought that also I have 94lb dual springs but then when I installed my old tentioner it stopped doing it. Maybe its because my old one has oil in or I've not activated the new one correctly

The Z20NET tensioner provides increased force as the spring is compressed more. I believe it's mainly spring operated with oil pressure assistance whereas the older Z22SE tensioners were initially spring loaded with oil pressure override with engine running (someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Therefore If your old tensioner appears to be working OK then the new one must either not have activated correctly or the mechanism inside has possibly become faulty, however I've not actually read or heard of any Z20NET tensioners failing.

quite normal with 94 lb springs (y)
