Engine wont start

Car wont start after putting manifold back in. Starter motor doesnt seem to be kicking in and i think i hear sparking/tapping. Fuel is getting to the rail but opcom showing "fuel pump relay - inactive" ??? Opcom is showing no fault codes but here are the screen shots. What have i done wrong @[deleted] @[deleted] @[deleted] @[deleted]

probably one of the earth cables below the inlet manifold is not connected ?

Hmm im only aware of two earth cables - the ground for the ecu and the one that connects to the top right hand corner of the cam cover. Where are the others?

The part of the wiring loom that was attached to cable ties underneath the engine - i cut the cable ties but the loom and any cables are still intact but i havent yet reconnected them to the manifold with cable ties. Do u have a pic of the ground cable and where its supposed to go please? Couldnt find anything here or googling

there is an earth point on the front of the block under the manifold with i think 3 wires next to knock sensor.
also have you checked all fuse's?
it reads that its not cranking over? so could be a fault on that circuit?
does the fuel pump prime the system when you first turn key on?

There are two earth cable retaining bolts on the cylinder block beneath the intake manifold.

It may be worth checking the fuel pump relay in the rectangular black box above the ABS unit. There are two purple relays inside (not sure which one is which) but one is for the fuel pump and the other is the engine main relay. If you remove them ensure the ignition is switched off and put a smear of Vaseline on the connections before replacing. 🙂

the earths go on to 2 of the 3 holes in line with oil pressure switch on front of block.
not got a shot with them on only with supercharger so looks different.
just above starter. knock sensor goes on other hole next to oil pressure sensor.

another option is the small wire going to the staretr motor has been damaged or cut and is shorting out against the starter motor or block

Ok checked the ground wires underneath the manifold and they are connected to the block and the wiring loom - just to confirm im understanding u all correctly u are speaking about the brown wires ive circled in red (not my engine just a pic i found on the net)

Again the symptoms are

Dash lights up
Fuel DOES get to the lines (even tho opcom indicates fuel pump relay - inactive)
Sparking occurs but no cranking (ie starter motor)

Therefore with my limited knowledge this would indicate two things

@[deleted] suggestion with the wire going to the starter motor has been damaged may be correct. Can u show me with a pic which wire u are speaking about please.
corsaZ22se suggestion ive blown fuses is likely - which fuse do u think i need to replace without having to check all???

Randomly thought id attempt to start the car - she fired up and i took her for a spin!!! Dont know what or how or why - all i did was tug on the brown wires to make sure they were connected to the block and the wiring harness and touched all the wires coming from the starter to make sure they were connected. Opcom still showing the same screen shots however!!!!! Hope she fires up in the morning - really miss driving the old girl and she still puts a smile on my dial every time i drive her 🙂🙂 Thanks fellas for ur help and input and sorry to be so high maintenance......

I will say this - there is a bracket that's attached to the dipstick tube down the bottom of the manifold where is it supposed to be attached to??

fuse's F2, F3 & F62 are for engine. also check relays K16 &K18 fuel pump and Engine electrics and the grey six pin plug for body to engine power for bad connections as any of these could have caused your fault?
the bracket near top of dipstick goes on front of manifold and the one near bottom is for a wiring plug to locate in which you may not have?

It sounds like you had a dodgy connection to the starter motor (or solenoid) and probably worth further investigation.

Will further investigate the fuses + relays @[deleted] and starter @[deleted]. Drove her 90km, to work this morning and this involved three start ups. All ok but i suspect unless i do as u suggest then the issue will recur. Have got to say as painfull as it was getting the manifold off it was well worth cleaning the port in it. NEVER remember the engine being so smooooth - baulky gear change especially down changes...GONE! Lumpy idle.... GONE. Noticeably lower NVH transmitted through the body and drive train. Id say the pcv port was partly blocked from the day i got the car - it was still under warranty and being serviced at the stealers and the log shows with mineral oil! :eek:

You'll have to update us as to whether it reduces the oil consumption.
