throttle "lag" ... some hesitation

Hi all

my Vectra B 2001 Z22SE is doing some strange stuff ...

throttle pedal has some "slack" zone ( about a centimeter ) and then the engine revs. change the pedal but... so i decided to open the throttle body 🙂

cleaned the tracks ( i thought i did) the brushes that were sliding on those tracks looked Ok

tested the motor Ok ( no weird sounds )

closed it and the "slack" increased... i had to press the throttle almost to the bottom until it revs! opend it again and made it even worse 🙂 the car would shake at idle impossible to drive... TC light on

Got second hand throttle body installed it and the car is the way it was before ( centimeter of slack )
Ideas ?

Not shure if connected but ... when i quickly press the pedal car would "think" for a brief moment revs would drop a little and then jump up! more ideas ?

could be the adjustment of the pedal linkage, you would need a diagnostic tool to see pedal movement/position and be sure it goes from 0>100%
same for throttle. and the 2 may need to be calibrated to each other.
adjustment can be done on the end of the stepper motor of the pedal.

pedal linkage ? isnt that mechanical ? it is eletronic throttle ...the ECU control the comunication between pedal and body ? so ECU diagnostic ? or the pedal itself could be plugged into some thing and get its signal output checked ?

on the vectra b there is a link between the pedal and the stepper motor which can be adjusted.
plug into the obd port by the hand brake, the data will be read through there from ecu.

it is not the mechanical link ... i have the pedal in my hand and when i push on it the thing inside with the "brushes" moves
the tracks looks clean ...will have to check the ECU

Your problem could be the throttle valve potentiometer, which is a combined part of the throttle body housing. Unfortunately individual parts for the throttle body housing are not available separately therefore it has to be renewed as a complete unit.🙂

The accelerator pedal module also has a potentiometer, and between the two of them (potentiometers), they determine the position of the pedal, which transmits a signal to the ECU.

Even the tracks and brushes in the body looks ok ... No dirt or .
Will see hope it won't get to that...

sounds like you have a different pedal set up to all the vectra B's i have seen? as they all have a stepper motor for throttle pedal position not a wiper type potentiometer as found on most fly by wire set ups.
you really need to be checking data from the pedal and body to see where the fault is. or swap yours for a know working pair from another car to see if the fault goes
could also be down to a faulty fpr, or fuel pump. the vacuum line to the fpr may also be damaged/leaking

the mechanic managed to find some way to remove the dead zone of the pedal ...( tighten smth ? it has only 1 bolt ... how ? what ? ) so from the 1 cm that it was now it is 2-3 mm 😃 and it is way better 🙂

it is Opel Vectra B not Vauxhall Vectra if that changes thing ... but i doubt it

this is the type of stepper motor i have come across on all the vectra B's z22se's.
the one you show is more like the other vauxhalls.

Iv got a similar thing on my Astra g cabby, any ideas? Seems to be almost a hesitation from when I press the pedal to something happening.

could simply be a gunged up throttle body, it's worth removing it and cleaning it up

Hello mate, I did the lazy repair the other day in that I removed the air pipe and cleaned what I could see, I figured that there must be some sort of gasket under the throttle body and I don't have a knew one.

Is it difficult to remove?

4 bolts and 1 wiring plug.
the seal underneath is a rubber 'o' ring type so should be ok as it sits in the manifold.

Really? It looked a lot more complicated than that on my Astra lol!!

It's gone for mot today, been stood up since 2010 so it will be interesting to see what happens emission wise.
It's getting a full service so some new plugs my ease the problem too.
It's only 64k
