Miroed Since engines are from the same family why there is a difference on the chain timing, anyone knows? Opel and Saab uses different tools for the chain timing setup any particular reason for it?
vocky the z22se and z22yh use chain sprockets with key ways to set the timing, the z20net and b207 use plain sprockets and thus you need to either use the correct cam locking tool or set the timing yourself with a vernier wheel.
Miroed Aha, I see. Would I be able to fit Z22SE chain sprockets on the B207 cam shafts then? My intension is to replace the cylinderhead on the Z22SE with the B207 and I am thinking of buying complete head with camshafts/ valves etc. and simply bolt it on with minor modifications (I don’t want to use cam shaft from the Z22SE head but use B207 instead).
Miroed All threads about porting of B207 head onto Z22SE are outdated and deleted so I have to dig everything again.
vocky Yes you can use the z22se cam sprockets on the b207 cams. I have done this a couple of times. You can also use b207 cams in a z22se cylinder head if you chop the exhaust cam down.
Miroed Thx! From your point of few would it be beneficial to get a brand new B207r engine and refit everything what usable to the Z22SE, or buy only cylinderhead from the B207r? I mean, is there anything else to install from B207r onto Z22SE.
Dave_Gilbert Vocky which cams would be best for turboed? I know 22 cams are open more n for longer but is that best? I can get hold of b207r cams n like u say cut the exhaust cam down. Cheers N sorry for jumping on this thread
vocky You can buy a new saab b207, then fit a z22se crank, rods and pistons. You might even be able to use the b207 piston rings, depends on which Se pistons you have. All bearings etc are identical to the se, even the cams are almost the same.
vocky The b207r cams are very good, or use the z20net cams. The other option is CompCams turbo grind.

By rought check I see that Z20NET engines are much cheaper on the eBay than the SAAB brother B207, what might be the reason for that? I thought that they are copy pase and both are made from the allu alloy and not alufoam as Z22SE. Wouit it be worth to save some $ and stick to the NET?
