Need another key for the B

The car only came with 1 key and I want a spare which means 1 of 2 things

Either I buy another fob and program it to the existing CLM, program a new immobiliser chip and have a key blank cut.
I'm not really sure about what fob to buy though. Or how it's programmed..

Second is to buy a new central locking module, already with 2 fobs, program a new immobiliser chip and have a key blank cut.
I'm pretty sure I can program immob chips with the opcom unit I have

Any thoughts on either of those 2 options or is there another I haven't considered?

As long as you have the car pass code you can add a blank immobiliser chip with opcom and i think there's like 2diffrent types of fob you can add with opcom to

I do indeed have the car pass.. first time I've even seen one. I'm thinking that adding a fob (and chip) would be preferable to changing the CLM (CDL).. just need to find the right fob.
A local key cutter can cut a blank for me, no probs with that.. might even go for a flip key.. :cool:

found the opcom steps on the interweb also lists the fob pcb type for the version fitted
Diagnostics/2001/Vectra B/Body/Central door lock/Programing/ - that is for non alarmed cars (Kiekert 433 MHz)
Diagnostics/2001/Vectra B/Body/Anti Theft/Programing - for factory alarm fitted cars (remote is Megamos M-AM, 433.92 MHz)

£42 inc vat.. by the time I've done that, sorted the immob chip and had a key blank cut I reckon it's not that far off the cost of going to the main dealer.

I need to score a fob for £10 - £15 I reckon... not many about on ebay right now.

the immobilizer chips are like £3 on ebay and im sure the astra g fob is the same

Got an ID40 chip en-route. £3.95.. but key blanks are up to a tenner iirc and cutting can be up to £20 round here. Although I'm hoping a chap I've not contacted yet will be more like a tenner.

I can probably get a CLM (or CDL, whatever it's called) with 2 fobs for about £20.. then I'd just need to get a blank cut.

Local pawn shop did my flip key for £5
Timpson's are a bunch of robbing gits that wont cut car keys

I try and get a few fobs when i go to the local scrap yard o will have a look on the garage later

We have a Timpsons but a competitor fired up a shop who is cheaper, and much better too.. he's the chap I need to pop in and see.

It's actually not that hard to program a key. I did it with my Siggy and believe me, till then, I'd never even played with anything like that. I replaced the chip on my board in the spare key I had (spare would unlock and turn ignition but wouldn't start car) which involved de-soldering old chip and re-soldering new chip. Once done, hopped on Op-Com and programmed it in a few minutes (I'm sure I found a guide to do it with Op-Com). Total cost for me about 12 quid (my chip is more expensive as it goes on the board). Stealer's wanted well over £100 to supply and program a key and £80 quid just to program one.
