how come they cant be registered in oz?
There are some strict rules here for when a vehicle is in an accident.
The vin number gets put onto a write off register. (only if insurance is involved. All vehicles have 3rd party insurance which covers the other persons for medical and any property damage but not covering the car in anyway. So if a person has an accident and they only have this lowest level of insurance the car does not get put on any register)
There are 2 types of write offs. A write off is excessive damage to vehicle where cost or damage is too great for insurance to repair.
Repairable write off: If the vehicle only has minor damage that doesn't affect the car in more than 2 key areas. It would be safe to repair the car and put back on the road. Cost for insurance to repair would be too high.
Statutory write off: (both the cars I got today): There is excessive damage to vehicle that would make it unfit for re registration.
For instance the cars I got today. The mk4 has a bent chassis rail. There is no way to safely fix it back to how it was. And with the Astra J. It has water damage. They state it has to be submerged for 48 hours up to the door sills.
With the J i'm currently looking into trying to sell it to Hong Kong. It can be put on the road there. Its got less than 3000km on the clock so its brand new. If I can do it and make 20k on it I'll be wrapped. Otherwise I'll just use it on the track here.
