Irmscher backbox

How restrictive is the irmscher backbox? notsure.gif Was thinking of changing my backbox to go with my new K and N panel filter, but i really like the look of irmscher box (the twin pipe one) but will change it, if it is to restrictive.

I'm not really into loud exhausts, more power is what i'm after :twisted:

Any info. would be welcome

The Irmscher box is basically the same internals as a normal OE box. What you can do is have the pipes cut off, and welded onto a performance back box.

I think there are some irmscher back boxes out there that are proper performance ones, they are all made by remus, if you compare the construction of the two they are different. I think the performance one has a smaller silencer and the rear hanger is welded on to the pipework rather than the box itself

I know on the vec's that the Irmscher double D is a remus and is better than a standard backbox

the Irmscher letterbox is not as good as the double D

I have a magnex on my vec and it's much better than the Janspeed centre section + Irmy letterbox I had, but probably due to the Irmy back box being restrictive

so my advice would be buy a good make cat back

There was a nice looking jetex system on e bay recently, may still be there.
Be carefull if you have an astra hatch with prodrive rear skirt as you will need an exhaust which exits the bumper in exactly the same place.
It seems the skirt was designed around the irmscher twin back box

I had a jetex on a 1.4 corsa sri, very well made and sounded very nice

especially when I fitted a 1.8 16v engine :shock:
