power steering filter?

ELLO ALL🙂hope your well, Do any of the power steering components have a filters in them?.Im going to change out the old fluid and was wondering if there's anything else i need to clean out. Cheers guys

The only component that may have a filter would be the power steering pump, but as these are usually exchange items (certainly at Vx dealers) it would be internal to the pump if it had one.
Not sure if you can purchase the parts to overhaul the pumps for a DIY job.:unsure:

Whilst renewing the PS fluid, obviously worthwhile checking all hoses, pipes and unions for any leaks. 🙂

Thanks for the reply Kev, it was because i seen a vid of another flush job being done and i was interested to find out if there was one on my car. ill need to clean all round that area to get a look. plus the weather aint good atm but i got her back up on axle stands today and the fluid is coming next week(y). the reservoir was full anyway and this is the first time ive checked:oops:. work in progress really. cheers

I asked the Vx dealer if they'd do this when they done the brake fluid change.. apparently it never needs doing and, according to them, shouldn't be done.
While I wouldn't automatically believe everything (anything?) a dealer told me, would you tell me why it is you're changing yours please?

I'd still kinda like to do mine but what's in there doesn't look horrendous apparently.

After doing the head job ive got the repair/maintenance hat on lol and its probably never been done. ill be doing the transmission fluid next too.

Similarly, if you ask the Vx dealers about changing the transmission (manual) oil they say it is 'fill for life' and doesn't require it unless any overhaul work is being done. However both TIS and Haynes describe how to undertake this procedure.

I hear ya about the Vx dealer.. although this dude drives a Vec B and is quite into the older models so I figured he **might **(and I can't stress might enough) be a little more insightful - yeah I know, wishful thinking 🙂

Did you just empty the reservoir and re-fill it or did you manage to get the fluid from the pipes and that??

Sorry of that's a daft question, I'm not really sure how the whole thing works...

I emptied the reservoir then filled it up a wee bit then turned it on and circulated the fluid. then emptied that too, then i removed the whole unit cause im nosey. i was able then to remove what looked like a black film from the inside of the container glad i did but you prob could do this without removing it. you dont need to fill it by opening the bonnet either just do it from the wheel arch. i had a 1L container so space enough to do it. then i did my transmission too. (y) didnt even remove the wheels :happy:

Mine's going to have to be done now (deffo have to lift the bonnet on a Vec B though)..

My pumps a wee bit noisy, is/was yours?

just when it was on full lock, haven't tried it yet. will hopefully get to drive it next week once i get my insurance renewed. this waiting is killing me:rage:
