Cylinder head 400 grit?

Hi guys🙂would 400 grit wet n dry be ok to use as my last sanding pass on my cylinder head refit? Cheers

TBH I would just pay to have it skimmed for what it costs.

That's not an option for me atm.🙁 plus the head is flat, needing some info on wet and dry.

@[deleted] I think once W&D a head on a old rebuild but may be wrong, a think a skim is only £25.

If you just want to clean the surface up 400 is fine even 240 is not too rough for the same job

I don't know what you have done to head but to clean the surface with recommended grit is okay.

Even 320 grit is a little rougher than 400 just whatever you have handy.

Obviously the rougher the paper the quicker you clean the surface so in that sense I think 400 would be a little slow

I have even witnessed a pal a mechanic use 120 grit

Really o_O120 thats rough! Did he have any head gasket probs afterwards?

Never saw the end result, but I know he would not have done it if it would cause problems. He's a good mechanic

Head surface looks clean now

Thats great to know thanks Idi, ive got 1 guide to put in now and lap 1 inlet valve. And refit the springs and keepers then on to the head gasket(y) Sort of looking forward to the chains.lol slowly but surely, hope I can do it. Its quite nerve racking but its good to do it for myself.

Take your time, double check things and I'm sure you'll be fine mate. Just work in a logical order and if in doubt ask mate.
