If you could be patient as I know my car is not a Vauxhall.

I've read that the block to the Alfa engine is in fact a Z22se. I've also seen that many covers ions have been done to this engine by using the block of a LE5 2.4.

So my question is quite simple is the block able to be used with my Alfa cylinder head etc.

I'd like more torque in the car as well as power. American sites seem to indicate a 15-20% uplift in power.

My current engine is getting quite high in mileage so would like to prepare for its replacement but rather spend money on an upgrade if possible.

I'm thinking this maybe an good option but not sure of likely pitfalls.

I'd appreciate an advice. I believe Vocky has a LE5 in his VX220 which would have been an L61 block?

If the block is different then it's a none starter. I'd also appreciate to know if there's a stroker kit for the L61 that may also be an option.

I know alfa use some vauxhall engines i know the 1.9cdti is used in alfas so u will probably be right.

The only thing is that Alfa has tuned the engine Z22se much more thene Vauxhall. (Opel).

The Ecotec 2.2, model L61 first appeared in the 2000 Saturn LS1; the L61-powered Saturn Ion also replaced the Saturn-powered Saturn S-Series.

There are a few variations to the standard L61. The 2003 Saturn L-Series has a high output version with higher (10:1) compression and more aggressive camshaft. The 2004–2008Chevrolet Malibu uses a version with electronic throttle control and a special unitized exhaust manifold and catalytic converter. The Malibu and Saturn versions also use return-less fuel injection. The 2002 Saturn VUE was the first North American variant of the L61 to be equipped with electronic throttle control, whereas other applications did not arise until 2005 in theSaturn ION and Chevrolet Cobalt. For 2007, introduced an updated version of the L61 based on the Gen II design.

The supercharger and inlet manifold from the 2.0 Ecotec LSJ engine can be purchased as an official kit from GM and along with modified software in the ECM, can create a 2.2 supercharged version of this engine.

I have an Alfa Brera M32 gearbox fitted to my 2.5 engine, which started life as a 2.0 - B207 in a Saab 93 turbo.

So yes you can use a LE5 engine if you wish. The head should be a straight swap, the only thing worth checking is the compression ratio. I know the Di engines have different shaped pistons to the standard LE5 / z22se.
Also worth checking is the trigger wheel, I think it's the same but worth checking when you have both engines side by side.

I got lost in all that - we can fit a alfa head to a z22e?

in theory you could fit the Alfa head to a z22se, however in practise you would have many problems trying to get the Direct Injection to function and would require the Alfa ECU and wiring loom.

So the blocks are quite easy to swap, just not the heads due to VVT and DI (variable valve timing and Direct Injection)
