car going into limp/safe mode

Yesterday while overtaking a slow moving car I DROPPED It To 3rd Gear And Put My Foot Down, But THE Car Lost All Power And A Spanner Symbol Appeared On The Clocks,Luckily I Was Coming To The End Of The Bypass So I Pulled Over, Turned the ignition off and back on and the spanner symbol had gone off and the car was ok again,I haven't got op com just yet so can't get any fault codes,the front exhaust pipe where the flexi part is needs changing as it's fudged, would this cause the lambda probe to confuse the ecu into throwing a fit? It's a vectra 2 2 direct if that helps cheers

I once had a similar thing happen on an Astra GTE, which was a blocked fuel filter.

But your exhaust flexi could also be causing the issue.

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator same thing happened on my 2.2 direct. Pulled over let it cool down then start again but used to have a habit of doing it at Traffic lights I put a new one on and solved the problem.

Well its not done it since,but I do get a lurch/misfire around 4k under gard acceleration; I've checked the fuel pump and it's got a continental one on it so it's looking like the fuel pressure regulator. .but where is it located,?

On the Z22YH, once you have removed the plastic engine cover, the fuel pressure regulator is located on the fuel injector distribution pipe towards the LHS. (There is also a fuel pressure sensor located on the RHS).

Even though the Continental pump is supposed to be bullet proof they can still fail. The FPR as seams to rear its head when it gets hot under the bonnet so stuck in traffic as @[deleted] mentioned. You can usually see when the pump is on its way out when you put the peddle to the floor and try to rev it through 3-4 k under load, it will go into limp and will instantly sort itself out when to turn the ignition off and on again.

got my opcom sorted thanks to marks152 off the opcom users forum and the codes that came up are
P1191-5A and
P0301-01 misfire detected cylinder 1 which im hoping is a spark plug breaking down
