I blame him too, he has almost convinced me to swap mine for bronze versions, but I am not falling for his "it's dead easy to do" :LOL:

I did have to have the 6.000mm ball bearing pushed thru them after fitting to hone them my local machine shop did it when I had the head skimmed
the bum part is the smaller seals I had considered contacting Trevor at Andrews precision to get some normal style phosphor bronze guides made up so the use of the normal seal could work or I guess you could fit the supertech ones upside down

I have a 6mm reamer already, so that part is easy 🙂

Is this normal for a head gasket open at the corner?

I know it is open in some places but im sure it is closed at the corners
I had the head on and took it off again to double check the valves at no.9 carrier cap. Not sure if i damaged the gasket or not cant remember how they look.

The stuck valve i had was a bent valve apparently, which caused the guide to crack

Anyway got that fixed for a tenner which i was pleased with, To buy a guide itself cost i think 8 quid minimum, I took them a valve they supplied and fitted the guide

yeah that's normal for the gasket it will go flat when the heads bolted on

Cool i was getting a little paranoid there started panicking, thinking the worst.
Means i can crack on maybe torque the bolts tonight

Found that phone cable will get some more pics up later

Is it correct that in a new gm chain kit you are not supplied the 4 torque head bolts that are inside the head at chain end . ?

I cannot seem to find them but I have the others that I can re-use

That's correct - they are not supplied in the timing chain kit and unfortunately have to be purchased separately.

If you are looking to renew then Part #: 24407225 - Screw, Cylinder Head to Cylinder Block x 4 (tighten to 35 Nm / 26 lbf ft).

I also need to know before i put on the big chain

I am a little concerned the balance chain is a little slack i do not know if this is down to not enough oil in the tensioner or something else so i need a few opinions if possible

And a little video showing movement of chain with tensioner activated, it was twisted and then held in place with a pin in the tensioner holes to hold down plunger

Yes you are right I kind of suspected so
The chain is practically touching the casing

Anyway I've been in contact with vauxhall they say £195 for a new chain kit. For a genuine chain kit on eBay 100 quid

Is it a gamble to go for the Fai kit, to try and get one today. a couple of people have had failed tensioner with these ones I'm sure @davegilbert has been one of the victims.

Or should I hang on a few days for genuine gm off e bay

Worth waiting a couple of days and fit a genuine GM one, you won't regret it and you know the job will be a good'un ! 🙂

Yes Kev brand new gm been sitting in a box waiting for me since last Friday
The balance chain is gm also just had too much abuse on and off a few times and twisted about etc

Best to just hang on a bit longer then

I reckon so, with a latest spec timing chain kit, balance chain kit and the cylinder head sorted (with new gasket) the car should be good for a few more thousand miles. 🙂

Incidentally, are you replacing the cylinder head bolts, as Vx recommend this as they are 'stretch' bolts along with the 4 bolts your mentioned above ?

Yes head bolts were replaced from a gm head gasket set
Its only the tork head bolts that are not brand new

Nicee one I got it delivered yesterday but only managed to get old chain and crank sprocket off last night before its too dark.

Tonight I started the work and put the rails on before the chain and had to take them off again.

I was scared cause they were so hard to get off cause of thread locker, I thought a couple

Hit the post button by accident there damn phone and I cant edit

I thought a couple of bolts would snap cause they were hard to come out, and they were only in about 15min .

So I need to tap the threads so there are not any more problems

What I need to know is the size of tap for the holes is a 5 mm big enough or do I need the 6mm which maybe too big

So if anyone can help with the size that would be good

Or should I mean m5 or m6

They were probably difficult to remove because of the threadlocker, but are most probably M6

were you using green permanent stud lock ?
for future reference use blue MED stud lock you wont have any problems
