Using oil

hy my 22se is using oil 1 dip stick level mark a week .I am using 10w40 oil . There's no leeks from what I can find and no smoke upon start up . Only on hard acceleration a little bit I also only drive short journeys to and from work . So I am thinking piston oil rings .i don't have a compression tester . And I had Hurd about ATF fluid in the bores could help un stick the rings has any one tried this with a good result?

Also what about GM top end cleaner ?

The plug looks about 20 years old

They have bean in there Les than 3 months believe it or not .brand new when fitted and I don't go far on a daily drive just checked the old plugs and there all ok nothing like that . It's only that plug that looks like that what could it be . I chipped sum of the crud off it and placed it on a wet paper towl does not look like rust so far so just heavy carbon build up I think

Get a new set of plugs in. Platinums are recommended for these.

See what they look like in a few thousand miles.

Dave there new and platnum I don't even think I have done 1000 miles in 3 months and that's how old they are

I got here on the road on the 8.6.15 and I fitted a new set just before that .i only drive 4 miles a day but let here warm up every morning and before I leave work. .its only that one plug that's like that

Looks gunky so id say oil control rings maybe but dont quote me.

the tip says its good but the rust not sure where that's come from

Thats amazing the plugs are less than 3 months old
If i take a guess i would say there appears to be water entering the plug hole if it is rust
If that is carbon in less than 3 months i dont know, a sticky valve maybe if only 1 plug has it
Either way it's maybe a sign some work needs done to the engine

It does appear to be carbon but looks like rust so far the scraping are on wet kitchen roll now and if it was rust it would discolour the roll wouldent it ?
Is there any thing I could use to try free up sticky valves with the head on .im more than happy to take rocker cover off to have a better look at the movement of the valves

She's had the head gasket dun in December plus skimmed before I bought here of a friend.i was using 0w30 for a while (free from work) and changed to 10w40 2weeks ago could it be any thing to do with that

you need to know for definite if it is rust or water how well does it clean up
Maybe the work done before is not up to standard
i am not sure the grade of oil would cause that especially if only on 1 plug
1 thing you can be sure of is that there is a problem a healthy engine would not leave spark plugs like that in 3 months
There will be treatments for valves if you google, not sure of any myself so cant recommend any

Cleaned it up and it appears to be metal .so I've orded A compression tester I'm going to do wet and dry tests.and I'll report back with my findings

Compression tester still not arrived bust be sent by snail mail .
Is there any thing I can pour onto the tops of the Pistons and left to clean the oil rings Witch works .I have Hurd ATF works also what about a engine flush type of thing . Then a then a full service with what ever I try

Well compression tester arrived today and it won't hold pressure for sum reason . This is the 1st tester I have used . Is it a faulty tester ? Or am I missing something
