Hello all,
my Astra convertible has a Z22SE engine which since buying the car has been misfiring and burning an excessive amount of oil. A whole engines worth on a run from the south coast to Birmingham. I had a mechanic friend who has looked at it and diagnosed that the oil rings need replacing. He works in a garage and is level 4 motor vehicle technician so I trust that he is right.
I'm seeking guidance on the cost of having the oil rings replaced, what other work to have done at the same time or whether it is sensible just to buy an engine from EBay and the cost of having that dropped in.
