fitting an AEM fic6 piggyback ecu

so ive come to the point where im not happy with the 10.0 on the wideband at idle and i was not happy enough to sacrifice the mapping on the current z22se ecu thats fine above 2500rpm as we all know

so the simple solution is to fit the aem fic so i can adjust the fueling below the 2500rpm range and bring it down to an acceptable level
it also will give me the option for future mods and to run 3 different maps 2 at the click of a switch and the cs map with the patch lead 🙂

i will post here as i go should be a full wiring and mapping as i go in here all documented

it has 2 plugs and now time to figure out what's used and not used

Seems a very expensive way of doing it tbh, would work out cheaper selling your ecu and buying something like a second hand Omex 600 and then just having it mapped, loom could be adapted from your loom now and could do away with some of the sensors, use a narrow band to control the idle map below 2500k and allow you to set your own rpm limit high up. Only thing that would need changing would be the throttle bodie and pedal for a cable one (y)

its cheaper than a 2nd hand omex, its cheaper than some people's bill at cs, its a 3rd of the price of dutch and retains everything factory no faffing about with eml lamps or trying to make the speedo work and for me cable throttle is not an option
the factory ecu uses narrow band to control fuel this unit allows me to control the lambda so its fine for that and mappable

when the next mod comes all i have to do is increase fuel so a saved trip and cost
the kms fic was purely to add fuel to prevent lean conditions under boost a good idea but would still need mapping in
this unit will let me remove fuel at the point where the z22se ecu cannot control fueling which is what i want
the map on the ecu if fine for cruising and power 340hp is good lol
but the vxr injectors are running far too much duty below 2500rpm i plan to change that and get the idle back to 1.0λ

im going to try and fit it today or at least make a start so we will soon see if it's suitable or not i spent a good portion of last night working out the wiring of the factory harness

i do like the feature of just entering in the desired fuel injector size then it creating a table for it to run a base map
heres standard z22se 230cc with vxr 470cc injectors base map -50% below 14.7psia the table will be scaled to 0 above 2500rpm in boost so theres no change to the current map 🙂

Can't see how it's cheaper? Mapping costs of standard ecu + cost of the aem are gonna be above £500

I just don't like the idea of running two ecu units to control something that can be easily done without limits on one.

VXR injectors are on there arse at the 340bhp and over as they are almost ran at maximum duration so anymore power/better reliability will require larger ones.

The Omex runs fuelling and ignition tables almost the same as above and you can self map them if you know what your doing but often the ignition map will need to be done on the dyno.

What your doing will work but as you have found the standard ecu has limits and just isn't as good as a aftermarket one.

I don't want to return to CS as I don't rate the map or the costs of base maps and final tunes, the Dutch software is good value if you constantly alter your spec but only worth while money wise if you can self map it.

this is the option i have chosen to go with i personally dont have any issue with the z22se ecu other than its limitations of larger injector control it runs everything else just fine
the aem unit is £288 and £0 for mapping and install as its done diy
i did consider the last set of mapping was £120 and they did a fantastic job as always
but i dont have to change any of that mapping in its current form my goal it is control fuel in the lower rpm band as said in the op
10.0afr is not what i want at idle and to much for an mot

the vxr injectors are not on their arse at 340hp not in my case anywho there were way way too rich all up the rev range and had to be turned down lots
dont forgot there running 4.45bar fuel pressure this bumps the capability up more

there is only one ecu on the market that is suited for the things i want it to do and without immobilizer function and some other things the factory ecu has i need for the car it costs £1400
even with an aftermarket ecu i would still need to leave the z22se ecu in place to run all the car parts

well here goes

bought a 50m spool of wire to extend the wires

the long process

staggered joints with self gluing shrink tube

11 done and 8 to go for the 2nd half

extended labeled up and made into a loom

pulled thru the bulk head

unit in the passenger well for the time being

divide and conquer

feed to the injectors

feed to the ecu for the injectors

all thats left is power, ground, wideband ,user switch
the injectors are done the 02 sensor is done and crank sensor

lol not to take the piss too much but i bought a 50m roll of ring 34/0.3 by the time i was done there 1.2m left

finished up the wiring this morning it was easy enough all the wires went in to the one ecu plug there's a 12v ignition live transferred over from the other plug to feed the coil pack and suppressor
i just moved all the wires out the way to run some tests
ive also included 6 extra wires for the other things if i need them in the future

the car runs as it was with the patch lead expected so it can be put back to stock with 2 PC psu plug style lead
the 1st run the car would run but stall with a light touch of the accelerator and idle was erratic
after checking the firmware on the aem unit i could see it was an old one z107 ive now flashed it to z110 and it an instant improvement
running with the aem unit connected and no map at all (all zeros) the car runs and behaves as it did before the unit was fitted

i then added some minus figures around the idle on the fuel map and managed to get it up on the wideband to 13.4 afr
the software has its own gauge set and an input for a digital and analog signal from a wideband gauge i piped in the plx units digital output to the aux in and only had to change the name of the gauge all the setting were pre set and work that part off the bat

only issue is now ive run out of fuel lol

im happy theres no intervention from the can bus part ive even gone back to a z22se coil pack just to get rid of the missing cam sensor issue
but
the unit is all installed but there's an issue with it passing 4500rpm and restart when warm
in talks with aem at the moment to track down the issue
im running on the patch lead for now till i have time

ive almost figured out how to use the log reading program to lol

tbf i enjoyed cutting random wires lol

im still not 100% sure myself but i took the car for a spin with the log running and a mate at the laptop whos a bit more skilled aka Danny the wizard
its running right and the idle and stft looks good (not much correction to afr) altho i cant check the stft,ltft as i dont have a working op-com

this is all the mapping that was required to make the car run 14.7 stoich at idle lol
you could say i have plenty of room in the table for mapping
the locations with (0) are unaltered cells and are running from the CS map on the ecu

also got a log of 9mins of normal and hard driving im sure the 7677rpm was not true lol
