Timing chain rattle after changing?

as the title says I fitted new balancing and timing chain double and triple checked everything drove round for around 30 mins after and it started to rattle again! I've tryed searching on the forum but can't seem to find an answer have I done something wrong when fitting??

Did you activate the tensioner before inserting it into the head

Yes,and balancing chain tensioner I checked and double checked,it ran well for the 30 mins I drove it,parked up went back to it and when I started it again it was rattling agin.

That's obviously a sign that you have overlooked something somewhere, so you need to think about what you have done . Very likely you will have to strip it down to take a look inside so you know what's up

I have took the cover from the side this morning and all looks fine? Could I have low oil pressure as I've read that the tensioner work of oil pressure?.

Enough oil in? If oil oil ok it be best to wipe the rocker cover off and check to see anything loose or came away.

Could u upload a video for us to hear how bad the rattle is? Did u change the timing chain also? Or just the balance?

I changed both chains,it ran perfect when I drove it best it's ever been as well,just checked the rocker cover and there is slight oil leak from the cam sprockets side and it seems the higher the revs the worse it gets,I'll try to get a video will prob be tomoz before I get one as iv got work soon and don't no weather to use the car now or not.

could be the oil pressure was not up and it could have caused the chain to go loose because the tensioner was not working as it should .
Only a suggestion but best thing would be a vid to give everyone a good idea whats up

where did you get the kit from? there have been a few people who's tensioners failed at very low mileage with pattern parts.
mine failed at zero miles!!:mad: got full refund though. 🙂

The kit was an fai kit from flee bay,and just a quick update I can't get a video as the rattle is now only there when driving the car,seems to get worse the faster you go and is still there while pressing the clutch but not there on start up or tick over?? I have oiled up my starter and tensioner bearings as well and it's still there

Have you started the engine with the belt off?

i had a strange noise(balance chain tensioner went) but to find it i removed the belt so so i could eliminate the alternator, tensioner and anything external.

have you tried it yet?

Yes,i took the belt of and it stopped,it was the bearing in the belt tensioner, but i think 1 of my chain tensioners is faulty as i can here it kick in a couple of seconds after i start the car unless that is normal?? but i didnt here it before i changed everything

My main timing chain tensioner seal instantly failed with oil pissing all over and luckly Carl noticed it before I done my 280 mile trip back home or the car would've be Fucked. That was an fai kit I'll be due a second set of chains in 15k time and nothing but GM going on the car.

That's what mine sounds like for around 2 seconds after starting the car then I here the tensioner kick in and it stops

ohhh id say faulty balance tensioner then, fai sorted mine out and refunded me(well matt) matt n fai was really good to be fair. not that big a job to swap the balance chain tensioner.
