2.2 2001 coupe burning oil and blue smoke

A problem has developed with my coupe when i rev her over 3 - 4000rpm it belows out blueish smoke. Shes fine starting up from cold and at low revs just when rev'd hard. She is getting through quite abit of oil aswell. How do i go about figuring whats up with it ? Can she be fixed or is she on the way out ?? HELP!!

Most likely piston rings at fault letting the oil pass. No easy fix as it would be a strip down.

Its only done 73k didnt think the piston rings would be gone yet. I'll have to start saving up for a z20let lump

A compression test will tell u if the rings are gone it should be above 170psi across all four cylinders. More likely to be worn valve stem seals.......there is a way of changing them without pulling the head off...so not too much involved if that's the cause of the problem

Did a compression test 1st read 100psi 2nd 90 3rd 90 4th 90. Did another one 1st 95 2nd 95 3rd 100 4th 105. Seem to all ruffly be the same to me, what are your thoughts ??

did you do a wet test ?
90-100 is really low most make more than 170psi even 200+
burnt out valves or valve stem seals then worst case piston rings

I think ur not doing the compression test properly is what i think.........youtube should have a video somewhere....your results seem really odd

I shall have another go tonight after work. I'll get on youtube see if im doing somthing wrong

As carl says do a wet test as well - a marked improvement after the wet test that means your rings are on the way out. But in all honesty blue smoke is prob more likely to be valve stem seals
