Hi I'm new here I've just bought a z22se vectra b sri on Friday after winning it on eBay a steal at 255 quid !
One of my first things was to change the timing chain , I've tackled cambelts no prob but was a bit worried about this . All was going great untill re timed chain twice coz after hand cranking timing marks didn't match up , then found out they don't for few hundred turns .... I then had issues refitting aux pulley and spend hours taking apart and reassembling only to find out the tensioner I was supplied had the bolt reces the wrong way.... But now all is done with the help of searching and reading this forum . Wot a great amount of info here. A big thanks to Vocky and evo Carlos some there info was priceless .
I can now plant my foot without crossing my fingers .
Any other pointers to look out for on these lumps I've done oil , filters , plugs and cleaned throttle ?

Common fault egr valve(iv had mine 4 years mind n not had issues)

But best to blank and cheat the egr if n when it goes.

keep it serviced every 3000/3500 miles n should be great

dont over tighten the plugs as plug 4 can crack the head.

dave has pretty much hit the nail on the head
the egr can be blanked and then the valve mounted on the piss if its still working if the valve fails at any point the cheater is the best option

oil and filter every 3000-5000miles

put platnum plugs in and for get about them for 50,000 miles 🙂 there only 23nm when tightening down 🙂

The EGR valves have a habit of playing up - but you can buy a blanking plug and a 'cheater' that just plugs in to replace it from this site.
I see you've already changed the plugs but be sure that you haven't over tightened them (20Nm), especially plug No. 4 as a water gallery runs close to it and it can crack the head.

The rear suspension rose bushes, two each side, also have a habit of disintegrating (especially the lower ones) - usually get a banging/clonking when travelling over bumpy roads.

I'm sure other members will have some more pointers for you.

Mmmm wonder if that's what's happening on mine. Noticed over the last week or so that there is a slight knock from under the car. Not sure if it's the exhaust, rear end or front anti roll bar as can't pin it down to an area.

Thanks guys , I'm going to look into blanking the EGR valve , and do something with air intake next as I drilled some holes in back of air box as I thought air box looks too small? and also removed a restricting cone thing . I'm not a fan of kone filters ,do any other parts fit ?

The only thing with drilling holes in the air box is that it produces more induction noise (I guess it helps it breath easier too but don't think you get any more power).
I would recommend fitting a K&N panel filter (part 33-2771 for Vec B 2.2). 🙂

Yes, quite difficult to pin point where the noise is coming from when your in the driving seat - maybe have a passenger in the back to see if they can hear anything, but sometimes some weight in the back can cause the noise to disappear. :confused:
