Anybody close to do camchain

Hi Ive just bought a signum 2.2 direct with 99 thou on the clock and wouldn't mind putting a new chain on it as a matter of course could anybody suggest someone to do it if I get the kits and a rough price I would get charged to do it oh I'm in Great Yarmouth thanks

hes the man when it comes to these engines. And very reasonable prices.

I would recommend getting a full gm timing and gm balance chain kit.

I've just been quoted by my local cambelt centre if I supply the parts they will charge £200 to do it does this sound about right ?

That sounds quite cheap to fit the parts I was quoted £900 to supply and fit. I would suggest at the least you use a GM timing chain kit even if you use a FAI balance chain kit. @[deleted] is without a doubt the man to see. He did mine in January and I drove up from Surrey to the Telford area. Does your local place have the locking tool for the cams and the tool to hold the crank still. Are they familiar with doing this job as it's not easy, Carl did mine in a little over six hours. I gave Carl a little extra as he was so good and explained everything as he did it. He knows theses engines inside out and cannot recommend him highly enough mate.

Defo carls the mad I drove from manchester I was quoted just over a grand by vaux to do it
I got a gen gm cam chain kit off ebay and a fai balance kit for just over £200 delivered then it was just an oil filter and good quality oil

Its a long drive there for you but if a job is worth doing its worth doing right, carl is spot on and has done so many of these chains now, he could probably do 1 with 1 hand and 1 eye closed.

specialist work so I would make sure who ever does the work that they know exactly what there doing. A cam belt and these chains are totally different. Iv done loads of cambelts but I wouldnt do the chains on a z22se/z22yh or similar.

I traveled from Newcastle for Carl to do mine and it was well worth it drive a bit of a pain but rather have someone do my chains who knows what they doing as the local garage to me didn't have clue.

Plus the clincher for me was the bacon sarny and lots of tea, can't beat that. Without sounding cliché, Carl is worth the trip for him to do the chains, because he explains it all as you go. That way you know what is being done and how it's being done. Not casting aspersions but when you can't see it being done it's easy to wonder if they are as meticulous as they would be if you were watching.

I got my chains from the shop on the forum, but I'm not sure if @[deleted] is still doing them. The difference with getting them from him and off Ebay is that he will make sure you have everything parts wise, including any oil seals and gaskets if you ask him.

Yours was the last order I had. I really can't be arsed with it any more to be totally honest. It's just not worth the effort that I was having to put in. People want cheap, plain and simple. They don't care about the extra mile I went to ensure great service.

I understand entirely mate, it's saddening that these days some time things like that are forgotten, good customer service, attention to detail and pride in what you do. I'm grateful that you did that last order for me then mate and I certainly appreciate the "extra mile" you went for me. Cheap and cheerful doesn't always mean good quality or longevity. I know that first hand in my day job mate, we have contractors in doing work with stuff that just doesn't cut it and ends up being replaced very shortly after it's been installed (mainly because you can't get it any more) or fails and breaks because it's just that, cheap and cheerful.
