Ajn Mini cooper drive shaft gaiter split on my daughters car, should I get the whole drive shaft (passenger side) or just get the rubber gaiter I dont like the idea of sepersting the joint for reassemble cheers ajn
5M1THY If its anything like Renaults and vauxhalls it's just a circlip holding it on and it's a very easy job the gaitor is a hell of a lot cheaper than a driveshaft also.. having said that if the gaitor has been split for a long time and the shaft is dry it could possibly have play in and may need changing.
Dave_Gilbert You can get gaitors that are split and you glue them so you dont have to take the shaft off. iv nevwr used 1 myself but sound like a good idea if they work. Searxh on ebay for driveshaft gator repair.

I did try a split one years ago on a ford but with so much greese around the area its hadr to keep it clean for a good seal if grease gets on there they dont stick, im just thinking labour charge to split the joint to replace the gaiter or just change the shaft. Cheers ajn
5M1THY If your paying someone definitely just the gaitor in my opinion it shouldn't cost a lot but will depend on what gaitor you buy a lot of the cheap ones are not very flexible and split quite quickly so I would say pay for a good gaitor and keep the original shaft presuming it's in good condition
