What made you pick a 2.2?

Well for me it was due to insurance, i wanted a Coupe and the 1.8 was giving good quotes on the insurance, i then got a coute for a 2.2 16v Coupe and tbh there was not much init! I fell i love with the coupe and i doubt il be changing it anytime soon! TBH there is quicker vxls but the torque of the 2.2 in the lower revs is great, it will easly purr along in 5th at 35 mph and pick up speed too!

I have been through a few different Astra Mk4's ie 1.6 16 valve, 1.8 16 valve, 2.0 16 valve but I had not tried the 2.2 yet til I seen one cheap so I bought it and loved it 😃. I have been put off the Turbo model as I know Turbos' often go and stuff, and the insurance is higher

Yeah youve been trough more VXLs than everyone else put together on here :lol: If its a VXL youve had it!!

Yeah it looks good when the bonnet is open! When i first got mine every one at work said "open the bonnet" whats that they said? A 2.2 16v! They were speachless lol. there reply was "big engine for an Astra init"? Just right i say!!!

The 2.2 engine is the best standard looking lump in the Astra, it looks perfect with it being a smallish car rallygif

i was gonna buy the 2 litre sri, so got a few insurance quotes and they were ok, then i saw a 2.2 rung up for insurance quote and tbh i didnt think they would touch me. turns out the 2.2 is cheaper to insure than the 2 litre, a friend of mine did the same and he found the 2.2 to be cheaper to insure than the 2.0.must be to do with younger drivers and 2 litres where as mainly the 21 plus age seem to drive these ones.just a guess notsure.gif

mines was the insurance quote, then i saw the 1.8 and had to laugh my head off. it looked absolutely (pardon my french!) shit,ha,ha,ha. 2.2 is so much better. but for a 2.2 its quite pants. the 2.2 prelude has 200bhp standard compared to our 147 bhp. but maybe ours is more reliable than a honda rofl.. what..

i did originally go to the garage to have a look at the 3dr hatch 1.8, but they sold it and had the coupe there. i have always wanted the coupe so i test drove it, got a decent insurance quote, then bought it. it just so happened to be the 2.2 🙂

I bought the 2.2 because it has chain driven timing gear (MMmmm)!! Didn't fancy running costs of the V6 but wanted more grunt than the 2.0....

All in all I am happy with it... for now anyway. Test drove a veccie C 2.0 Turbo recentley and I think thats the way I'll be going later in the year.
