Full Engine Rebuild after timing chain failure

Hi all

So my gfs 2.2 coupes timing chain let go about a year ago, she loves the car but it's had to be stored in garage til she could get it sorted.

She's decided she wants a full engine rebuild as plans are for a supercharger, so wants best start possible for it.

I've not been able to get head off to inspect damage til I can get my tools to hers, what's the common parts that take the hammering?

I'm expecting to replace all valves and valve guides, and potentially pistons due to damage.

But being an aluminium engine how does the head fair when timing chain snaps?

Whilst engines stripped she's wanting new rods and pistons so it's built for boost, are new oem rods and pistons still available?

I know this isn't an uncommon post but my 2.2 did 40k miles without any issue at all, cars her pride and joy and she hates that it's broken, so I'm trying to get it all organised!

Any help is great fully appreciated!

Cracked guides and bent valves as you said is very common.

if your going to charge and want big powrr go forged rods and pistons(gets rid of any damaged pistons aswell)

Best person to talk to about chains snapping is @[deleted] as he has repaired a few now

and the best person to talk to about supercharging is @[deleted] as hes done a few of them now.

so best thing to do is talk to carl. Hahaha. Theres a few being charged at the minute so theres alot of info flying around.

Yeah they are the weak points, but being an alu head I'm not sure what damage it would have taken!

Think she's after around 240bhp, so not mega power just nice and drivable.

She wants new pistons and rods to eliminate any future issues, and to keep it alive for many more years to come.

evocarlos is a familiar name! I shall give him a pm shortly!

Has the price in charging come down much? I know Courtney want around £4k for a drive in boost out service.

If you can build it yourself from guides on here you should be able to do it for around 1500quid

a basic charger and manifold kit can be had for about 900 plus inport taxes from the states I beleive.

I dont know everything about it as I was stumped at the first hurdle because I have a vectra c n it cant be done(courney sports words not mine)

As far as the pistons and rods are concerned if your going for 240 then standard ones will be capable there okay up to around 260-270bhp Im currently charging my van and I think all in doing it myself it's going to cost around £1500 but that's with brand new genuine vxr injectors a high pressure fuel pump and a charge cooler system you could do it for about a grand if you really look around for good second hand parts and no cooler system but personally I wouldn't do it like that if your planning on keeping it for a long time

I've spoken to Carl so have an idea of what's needed on the rebuild.

When it comes to sc I'll be fitting a fmic to help keep charge temps down rather than charge cooler.

Pistons will probably need to change due to valve impact when chain snapped, is there a good place to get oem engine parts for the 2.2?

I saw piper regrind the cams, so got a spare set to get sent away and done.
