Ajn My Vectra c 2.2 petrol 2008, haven't been starting lately taking ages on jump leads. Today joined the leads up noticed smoke and smell of burning. Now just a clicking noise. Any ideas were to start will it still start by push or tow. Cheers ajn
Dave_Gilbert Should do as long as you have dash lights but dont panick if u have no throttle peddle just let it charge for a while then turn it off n try n start it again.
Dave_Gilbert Yeh or a good hill to bump down. But when I did that I had no throttle so you would struggke to get it back up the hill very well. Maybe get a battery charger n charge the battery n try again.

Dave_Gilbert So you have fitted a new starter motor? If so I would clean the battery terminals, clean all the connectors to the starter motor and check that the battery has enough charge in it.
5M1THY When mine failed I took the starter motor off clamped it in a vice and put jump leads on the terminals I soon realised it was screwed lol

5M1THY mines an astra but presuming it's the same which I'm sure it is I took my throttle body and inlet manifold off to give me room and it was 3 bolts and 2 wires if I remember rightly it really isn't a hard job the tb has 4 10mm bolts and the inlet manifold has about 8 or 10 then you can see it bolted to the block going into the the gap where the flywheel is. You can probably do it from underneath the car without removing anything else but It seemed easier on mine just to remove the inlet etc. there's probably a guide on here how to remove the inlet and tb if you have a basic tool kit and a couple of hours spare it's really not that hard at all
5M1THY I think it cost me around £100 for a new one but that's genuine at trade price so it's probably similar or a bit less for one from euro car parts or similar ,
