strange findings when removing pre cat

So decided today to remove my precat on the astra , got everything off and drilled and wrestled the honeycomb out past the flange .

Job done I thought ... upon inspection from both ends and with a scope it would appear I have no main cat just a hollow shell !

Im confused as to how though previous owner didn't decat .

Has anyone seen anything like this ?

unfortunately not , but its the standard original cat and flexi section just where the pipe swells and the honeycomb should be there is nout !

managed to pass several peices of welding rod straight through and a 2.5ft pry bar with no resistance before getting the scope and couldnt see anything to suggest there was anything in there

If its after the precat(should be) it may have fell apart n just been spat out the back.

Its the only thing I can think that explains it ! I do get a lamda code up every now and again thought it was just the rear sensor ...

Makes loadsa pops and bangs now with the cat back on just need to be nice to the mot tester , free decat I suppose

It's quite common for the cat to fall to bits on other cars I've had it before I haven't heard if it on vauxhalls but i would of thought that's what's happened tbh

Had it on a few fords and a golf of about this age but im the same never a vx ! The precat was completely intact so didnt think twice about the real one lol
