Doing a service. Help!

Hi,

Just doing a service on the car. Plugs came out looking like they were the originals, same for the air filter. I cant for the life of me get the sump plug undone. Thats if im trying to undo the right nut. I thought it was a torx bolt but cant see any anywhere and only nut i can see to undo is a 15mm nut. Also cant see how to do a coolant flush underneath. Seen on here you have to take the bottom hose off, cant even see the bottom hose.

On your rad you will see a red plug on the drivers side undo that and coolant will come out
The plugs look like they have seen a few miles
I would give the throttle body a clean

Yeah they were GM plugs too. Perhaps the originals? The car has just over 70k miles. Ive cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner. Still stained brownish but give it a good clean. I thought the Vectra doesn't have a plug? Seen on here somewhere that only Astras do and i have to take the bottom hose off?

Tbh I have not worked on the 2.2 vectra
Have a look tho it might have
Or do it the old way lol
The spark plugs do have a long life think it's about 50k before vaux say they need changing

Yeh I think plugs are 50k. I dont know why cos there not alot of money

Hi Matt,

If you have new spark plugs then change them (Haynes says to replace every 40,000 miles). Don't over tighten the plugs (25Nm and no more).

The lower radiator hose is located on the right hand side as you look from front of the car. The hose is a about 3/4 of the way down on RHS of the radiator, then a matter of undoing the hose clip.

The oil drain plug is located on the right hand side of the sump,looking from underneath the car towards the front. Recommend fitting a new drain plug washer (part no. 12616850).

I would also recommend changing the fuel filter located just in front of the OS.rear wheel. There is a 'How to' on page 9 of the Resources on here. It is for an Astra G but the procedure is very similar.

Cant see the red plug anywhere. Cant see the bottom hose tbh either. Noticed that when i start the car the engine moves alot also. Is this normal? (see video and ignore the sound , it doesnt sound like that , it must be the noise cancelling on my phone)

I have fitted the new plugs and also a new airfilter. I have also derestricted the airbox by taking the pipe out and also cutting down the one that comes from the front of the car so it only goes into the airbox by a few mm instead of 6" as before. It definitely seems to rev and pull better. Will have to have a look at the coolant change tomorrow now as got to go out soon. Also couldn't get the sump plug open , im strong and couldn't get it undone so think it has been put back on with an airgun , or king kong has put it back on lol.

Im going to to do the fuel filter when my EGR cheater comes as will do them together along with cleaning the fuel pump filter too.

Ive seen the hose now. How the heck do you get to it? My hands are quite big and cant get down to it.

you can remove the relay box from in front of the battery to gain more room, still not easy. there is also a drain plug at the bottom of the water pump. get to it from underneath behind the engine.
the amount of engine rock on start up is normal for a Vectra b, only 3 mounts.
six point socket and a 2ft breaker bar should get sump plug loose.
I had a satin red Vectra b for 12 years, really miss her, still got the gsi bumper and remus exhaust in the shed.

Cheers for that. Didnt have a lot of time today so will take my time with it this week and try get the sump plug undone. When you say gsi bumper , do you mean just front, just back or both? Also is it the remus back box?

just the front bumper, full remus twin 3" tail pipes. its been de restricted, now has sliding joints. got a straight through centre pipe and a silenced one.

What would you want for the remus stuff?

it would be collection only, £50 for all 3 parts. the straight pipe hasn't done more than 200 miles. found it a bit loud but I had dbilas manifold and 2.5" down pipe with 200cpi cat. think ive still got a k&n panel filter? I would chuck that in with exhaust.
near oxford, ox33 area.

Noticed today that when I start the engine from cold and leave it ticking over, the whole car feels like its shaking slightly. The engine feels like its shaking a bit and when I rev, it sounds like a cat purring a little?

I had a good vibration when my balance chain tensioner had given up. Im not saying thats whats wrong but its something to think about.

Hi,

Did yours feel like it was missing a bit when your balance chain tensioner had gone? It seems to have got worse since i cleaned the TB and did the plugs and air filter. Could i have disturbed something on the throttle body. I didnt take it off , i just took the black pipe off the top and sprayed carb cleaner on the butterfly and wiped off the gunk.
