Weird non starting issue???

Ok, here goes. Was out in the car the other week, stalled it reversing off the in-laws drive:facepalm:. So turned ignition off then on again and it wouldn't fired up, all lights came on as usual headlights were on etc but it didn't even make a sound, rolled it down hill for few yards and it bump started fine, and haven't had any more probs with it until last night. Got something to eat, parked up to fill my face with fatty saturated naughtiness turned the key to head for home and had the exact same problem. Please help :-)

Bad connection to the starter motor or dead srater motor.

You could strip it n clean it out n maybe replace the bushes(like in a drill or a angle grinder). Hope this helps

I thought that Carl but power seems absolutely fine, AFLs stereo, sat nav etc are all in and working, just nothing when I turn the key??? Could be what Dave said....

Have you got a voltmetre? Or electrical tester?

If not go to halfords cos I think there doing free battery health checks at the minute.

When engines running you want to see about 14v

when engine off you want 12.6v

Where is the starter motor located?

Thats a good question, its on the edge of the gearbox and engine somewhere

Had a look at it yesterday afternoon, sprayed all contacts with contact cleaner, sprayed a bit of wd40 in the motor itself, fired up didn't it, also been fine today, but think it's on it's way out, it's the original item, need to source one now. Cheers for the help :-)

Iv stripped quite a few starter motors and saved loads of them. If I was you I would strip it down give it a good clean out(there will be loads of really small bits of metal stuck to the magnets) and if possible(not 100% sure if you can l replace the brushes on the motor if there replaceable on them, I saved 1 of a vw beetle with just aclean out and a punto.

Cheers for the guidance Dave. Picking up a new motor and swapping it out. Going to have fun with extension bars try to get the top bolt out lol

Iv never had to do it on a z22se but done plenty of others, shouldnt be that bad a job.

Is it manual or auto? Ignore this, i was thinking if it was auto it could be an inhibiter switch but if the car thought it was in gear (auto) you probably wouldn't get the key out of the ignition.
