Urgent help needed with a chain change. Done a few before but this is wierd...

Hi chaps

Changing a full chain(s) kit on a friends vectra (its a YH engine). Done many before but not encountered this problem. Unlike on other changes, I decided to do the balancer shaft sprockets as this is now its third chain (177k miles) and the teeth were looking too worn for my liking. The issue is that now i have put the new sprockets on, the shafts are as stiff as hell. With the old ones on they spun up as easy as pie before removal. Now they have gone proper stiff and i cant see a reason for it?

I wonder how the shafts are held in/located? is it possible to have moved them in/out slightly and nipped something? It all look right and nowt is rubbing. Im just left here scratching my head. Any input would be appreciated!

Let the fun begin. If you are lucky you don't need to do what I had to do but it could be the same problem o got

Strangely, if i put the old sprockets back on it turns as free as a dickie bird.....

have to ask do you have them on the right shafts ? as there inlet and outlet

what brand of balancer sprockets are they ? ive only ever fitted 2 sets they never look worn

I also had the same problem when i done my chains.they was really stiff and ended up putting originals back on .i remeber vocky saying that they rarely need changing.just as carl says above

Are the SE and YH sprockets the same? Is it possible you've got the wrong ones?

fai have now revised their balancer sprokets removing the washers and outer flat washers

think there just the same as the lower sprocket with less parts lol

I got Lucas chain kits from EuroCrapParts - never again. Two return visits to return defective bits. Always use genuine, so much better.

thats why i dont recommend the lucas kits the other issue is they don't fit right

I got fai balancer chain and genuine gm cam chain kit with the gasket for £210 the lot del

Mines failed after around 3000miles
getting a Gm 1 to replace it.

Ok well keep an eye on it after 3000 miles. Its probably just these 2 that have failed. Im sure its fine hahahha.
