Alternator problem

Hi all, I think my alternator is broke, my 2.2 Astra refused to restart after running fine all day. After I got a jump start off a mate I checked the voltage and I'm only getting 10.7 volts at the battery with the engine running.

The question I have is will this just be the regulator on the back of my alternator or will I need to change the full unit?

It's easier just to get the full alternator or if you can get the old one fixed

I just chucked a secondhand unit on mine

They can be rebuilt but I dont think its really cost effective

evocarlos had my old 1 and did a thread about rebuilding it. If your interested in giving it a go.

I had a quote in May from Unit Exchange http://www.unitexchange.com/ for £80 with 12 months warranty, exchange for old unit. Phone 0800 052 8312.
They send the replacement one out, you pack up old one and they collect it. Simple.

just get a used unit from ebay for £30 🙂

I forgot all about this thread. I ordered a second hand one off ebay. When I fitted it, it turned out to be no better than the old one, so I took my original one to an auto electrical guy who fitted a new regulator then I sent the ebay one back. New regulator was £40 fitted.

I looked at that evocarlos but after waiting nearly a week for the duff alternator to turn up, then I would of had to order the new regulator and wait for that.
The auto electric guy had my alternator fixed in the time it took me to walk around the corner to fetch some money.
