Rear discs and pads (BOSCH) replacement , advice please

Hi guys,

Want to try and attempt to replace the rear discs and pads on my coupe,
Have never touched anything brake related before, is it true that you need a caliper rewind tool in order to compress the piston or is there a trick so that i can avoid buying the tool?
Do you use copper grease or not?
I'm going off a haynes manual to do the job but any advice from your experiences would be appreciated.

hey
yes a rewind tool is required you can sometimes improvise (push and needle nose plyers with a bent tip)

copper grease should only be used on the parts of the pad that touch metal never on the rubbers it makes the rubbers swell due to the petroleum base

hi evocarlos,
I've managed to get one side done properly and purchased the tool which made the job a lot easier.
However on the other side i have only managed to replace the pads because i have a stubborn caliper bolt that has turned half way out but will NOT turn anymore and the hex head is now fooked because it kept sliding the wrench off under force.
God i'm sick of damaged bolts (as you previously encountered on doing my chains lol)
What can you suggest please evo.

That's my luck as well and always the last bolt!
