There is a very fool proof method with any engine. I have never used timing marks in my life with any engine. as there might be a possibly that they could be wrong.
This is how I do it.
- Get piston 1 to TDC on the rock.
- Get the Cams so they line up so the exhaust is just coming off the stroke and the inlet is just going
- Put on the cambelt or chain and then its timed up.
of course turn the bad boy over by hand with no spark plugs in.
and check they don't knock but if you done it right its impossible for it to lock..
Or you can do the long winded way that most people go for and pin it all etc etc.
that's how I do it lol and never had it fail yet.
