z22SE AND Z22YH ENGINE CAN THEY BE SWAPPED.

Hi all I have been offered a Z22YH engine. as my Z22SE Has snapped its balance chain and wrecked the head.

The engine Z22YH has had a brand new GM chain fitted about 3 mths ago with receipt from Vauxhall the reason its on there is a rear end smash.

The breakers said that the engines are a straight swap long as I strip it down to Head and Block and then transfer the whole lot over from my old engine.

Views on all of this...

They also suggested something else but I am not going to mention that as as I think its a stupid answer...

the breakers are wrong 🙂
the z22yh has a hp fuel pump and hp fuel injectors and a different control system (electrical) the z22se has normal injectors and is mechanical
if you can get the z22se ecu to work the z22yh cam sensor and fuel control system your laffing 🙂

and to note a broken balancer chain wont damage valves unless its knocked the main chain about 🙂

you can fit a z22se head to a z22yh bottom but if your heads wrecked thats not much go to you lol

You take the Valves out of Z22YH Head and stick them in the Z22SE head. of course gind them in
and then use the Chain and bottom end from the Z22YH as they are better and stick your Z22SE head on it.

and hey presto its running

He said that is the cheapest option to get the car back on the road.

its a mix and match job but yes you could use the z22yh valves and repair your head as long and the inlet guides are not cracked
and if you have any bent inlet valves then you will have cracked guides

the z22yh as a direct swap for a z22se will not work 🙂 but rebuilding your head from its parts then using the bottom end

the only other issue is the z22yh uses a 60-2 trigger wheel not supported by vectra b and astra g z22se ecu's only vec c ecu 🙂

@[deleted] Yeah I am guessing that all the inlet valves are bent. as I was told to take off the cam over and see if you can move the rockers but they had all fallen off. so I have been told that means the inlet valves are all bent.

So with what your saying I take it all the guides would be cracked as well...

Its a 2003 Vectra C so does that mean that I could use the bottom end. or not..

as long as you current engine has the same trigger wheel then yes the bottom end could be used

if an inlet valve is bent the guide will be cracked thats a 100% guarantee the guides stick out in the port and can't take the force of the valve being bent
the exhaust side guides sit recessed in the head so are better supported and are less likely to crack

@[deleted] might be a case of making a modified Vectra C and whacking a nice turbo chargered engine in there. Would just need to find a nice engine. and then convert the rest...

Yeah but cheaper is no fun. tbh I might just scrap it and cut my losses as its gonna cost a fair bit I can see it in the long run.

Scrap car £220 + £235 I was gonna spend on car and just get another one lol

which out the heartache and messing around.

as cant find a sensible priced engine around me.

Hy i have the yh bottom and a 22se head engine wont start, there no spark, any ideas? . What have i done wrong?
