Hi all.
I was driving last night went to over take. (yes I was the other side of the road) and bam the car just cut out. I quickly pulled over. And tried to restart it but it just spins over with what sounds like no compression at all.
Mr AA came out and said. The timing chain has snapped mate. do you want me to tow you to a scrap yard or home or garage personaly I would say a scrap yard... But anyway I had it towed home. My mate came over this morning and pulled off the Cam cover. And told me to turn it over and strangle the cams both turned over fine. But still no compression at all.
I rang up Vauxhall who said that the only other chain was the balance one at the bottom of the engine. and if that's snapped then. It would not of bent any valves and just replace it and away it will go no problems at a..
Is this the case ???
Also I am confused as if the crank and pistons are going up and down and the valves are opening and shutting why does it sound like there is no compression. and why wont it start. as from the sounds of what the Vauxhall techy guy say. this is just from the crank to the balance shaft and that's it. and well around other cogs. So I cant see why it would not run.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks.
