What's you view on paintwork?

As some of you may know my red van is slowly becoming pink and it's getting to the stage where polish is just making it worse...

personally I've never had a problem with bodywork before so have never really worried about it so when I realise it's a couple of grand for a respray or a grand for wrapping I'm thinking that's supercharger or forged parts money...
my dad's always said to me if it doesn't make it faster is it worth paying money for so with that in mind I'm thinking rather than having a pristine paint job just have it fast and not really worry about the looks?

its not that I can't afford to paint or wrap it but there's a lot of cars/vans in the world is it worth 2 thousand pound in paint when I could have a really good engine and running gear and put it in any astra g when the van gets to old.. what's people's thoughts? .
I know some people keep the same car for years but some have there fun and move on.. I love this van but if I'm spending 2 grand on painting it's going to be done properly and kept for years or I just build the engine etc have my fun and when it looks really bad buy another van and put my engine n that straight in.

I suppose the question is do you spend loads of time and money on one shell when there readily available cheap just not show condition?

To have it painted again in the same flat red shouldn't cost any where near £2k. I'd expect about £800 for that, as there is a lot less work than with 2 pack paint. Just needs a sand and polish once it's done to bring the finish up.

i would respray it in red base and 2k lacquer like the new solid color red vxl's

with the lacquer it would not fade daily 🙂

your van did not look to shabby at pvs get the engine done then think about paint later thats what im doing 🙂

Same, didn't think the paint was bad at all when at PVS.

Always a hard one, it looked very good at Trax last year as well, I think my paintwork is shot but once quickly detailed it does get positive comments.

I would be tempted to do the engine if you are not stretching yourself with the cost and look at the body later.

It just come up shiny after a good clean but its really starting to show its age at the moment i need to give it some loving lol
I would definitely have it in the new red with laquer that's a nice colour..

I got quoted 2k for a blast over and the engine bay freshened up and that's with me stripping all the parts off and taking the engine out etc which I thought was ridiculous I only want it how Carl said..

If I do the engine and then decide the van shell is no good I can always get another one there's plenty around.

stop faffing with the french stuff and get on with it already hehe 🙂

for 2k you could buy the paint the supplies,tools,compressor,and the wood to build a shelter then paint it your self lol
the experience cost a fortune im still learning lol changes every time i paint something

So my bumper and wing going to be a learning curve for u lol

Yeah fair enough decision made lol 🙂 I'm not sure I should start by trying a respray though lol I just need to pull my finger out and get something done now lol I've still got brake seals and sub frame bolts and bushes to fit

im always learning 🙂
you wing and bumper will be painted with base and lacquer and not solid color 🙂

That means nothing to me lol as long it's black and shiny

it will be painted as if its a metallic car 🙂 flat base coat then lacquer on top to make it shine

Well after a quick snow foam, not been done in months, the front bumper was peppered and I mean peppered in chips at some point it's going to get fresh lick of paint but got some spare chipex but not blending solution so went a bit mad then wet sanded it and buffed back.

Now I don't have stonechips but in certain light it looks like our little lad has put his paint brush to it!

Not sure what's worse.

Always going to be a problem on a dark car though Si, especially once that covers the miles that DPY has done.

I know, end of the day it's 11 and half years old and done miles think I may treat it soon to some paint on the bumper.

Well recovered it a bit, 1200 w&d then 2000 then 3000 and I have cut back the most of the excess paint. Now the fact the colour match is bang on from Chipex it now looks much better and has blended in well.

It's fairly scary and you have to be prepared to pay if you cut through the clear which can happen very easy. But go steady and not too aggressive it's not too bad.

lol I wouldn't touch the paint on the van it comes off when I wash it lol I wouldn't mind trying it on the Renault as that's good paint
