right..so I hoping someone here can shed sum light on a very annoying problem I have.
Quick history:Z22se in Astra 2.2 GSI suffered head damaged due to the moron who did the chains getting the timing wrong.
Redid the head with new valves, guides ect and had it fitted by another mechanic.Problem I had is im loosing coolant..mabe like 250ml every 200 miles or so.Also car then had a very misfire when warm..no warning indicators on dash ect and plenty of power when driving on freeway. So I decided to pull the plugs and no 1 looked slight dodgy almost like a rusty colour but the others seem fine.
So I figured lets try a head/block test they and confirmed that there is def exhaust gases in the coolant system..guy says you can smell it...he says because its all new it might be head gasket not torqued properly or the gasket failed.
So I go back to mechanic who did the work and he torques the head abit more??..it definitely has made an improvement as the miss is much less noticeable and the coolant loss is definitely less.
Now im pretty sure that coolant is not going into the sump as the oil seems clear but im sure I need to get the mechanic to pull the head and recheck the head gasket..
So it sounds like I pretty much know what I need to do..lol..however my question is simply this..can I cause any serious damage by driving with such a small loss of coolant specially if it is the head gasket related. The mechanic confirmed he would get around to it but that's atleast another 2 weeks away.Car runs well and no oil loss ect..just the bit of coolant top up every few hundred miles and the now very slight miss when fully warmed..about half way on temp gauge.
Any advice is much appreciated.
