Hi I own a 2004 Vectra SRI 2.2.Recently it has developed a fault that it started to misfire then it would cut out and eml would come on.My cheapo code reader from amazon came up with a fault generic fuel rail pressure sensor A.
Then I had to get grren flag out as it lost all power after work one night and became undriveable.
When their so called mechanic arrived he asked what the problem was when told he said egr valve and proceeded to hit it with a hammer.
He then plugged in his diagnostics reader(A very expensive snap on one) which listed about 20 different faults and sensors all
showing faulty. He cleared these then started the car and it was fine. I drove it home as normal.
The next morning the car wouldn't start again.
So green flag again sent some one different out who I asked if he would clean the egr valve as I didn't think hitting it with a hammer was a suitable fix. When he took the top off he said it didn't need cleaning and was ok.
Next morning I took it upon myself to clean the throttle body ,air flow meter, plugs etc just to see if it solved my problem.
The car ran perfectly after this all day.
Next day wouldn't start again so I called out a local mobile mechanic with a good rep.
When he came the car started again. When he plugged in his code reader he got the same long list of faults as the green flag tech
which he believed was a wiring fault as all those sensors could not fail at once.
He's had my car for over 24 hours and charged me £90,brought it back after test driving and checking the wiring loom and cleaning all the sensors plugs etc. As he pulled onto my street the fault returned. He now thinks that there is a short in either the egr valve or throttle body but obviously I don't want to start bolting on part after part after part and was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem and knows how to sort it as I'm now getting fed up of it and just want it done.
