got a funny smell when i start the car somtimes its like an exhaust smell or a fuel smell anyone anyideas i thought it mught be a loose manifold notsure.gif

I get this too baz,only seems to happen when its cold tho,

Mines a strong smell of petrol,wudnt say exhaust fumes..might be something to do with the evap system,but i dont no..maybe vocky can shed some light on it..

it only lasts a minuite the smell that is then i goes away lol im going to check the manifold on friday as i think it might be loose

I get this also but doesn't smell like petrol or exhaust!! Engine/car seems fine so i just put up with it!

I only get this when car is cold. Once she's warmed up - no problem. Deffinetly not a petrol smell though.

I usually find that if I fart in the car seat just before I get out on a night, it usually jumps up at me first thing in the morning when I sit back in it!!

Exactly the same as I was getting, only on start up and only for a short time, on mine it was a cracked manifold (the second one in 15 months!!! It's had 2 now, 1@32K and 1@49K)
But isn't there an issue with loose manifold nuts on the Astra? You might be lucky, check the recommended torque though before you tighten them ........ I was very surprised to see on the Vec B it was like 9ft/lb tight!!! My little girl could tighten them more than that!

usually get a big wiff of petrol smell at the beginning and then it goes after that. Gotten use to it that dont even notice. Friends always notice it though. Im probably high on the fumes anyway 🙂

If the manifold is cracked or loose, should n't i notice a lack of power or performance?

This may be a stupid question but what exactly is the pollen filter? Could the smell be coming from there somehow?

The pollen filter traps pollen particals from the air before the air gets blown around the inside of your car.
