mot advice ?

took my car for MOT today

the current one does not expire till 20th of may 2014

the car failed on broken rear spring (everything else passed) they cant fix it till next week as they have one guy off and have lots of worked booked in this week. now i asked the boss there can i still drive it till then he said yes, i said so what happens if i get pulled over will i get done, he said no as my current mot does not run out till 28th may and i will be returning it in the 10 day period.

now im a little worried if its ok to drive it or not ?

i have phoned another garage and im getting both the rear springs replaced (even though its only the one thats gone) tomorrow anyways dont want to drive it full stop with broken springs.

so not sure if i should try and get it in somewhere else for re-test or new test, earlier than next wednesday or as the springs will be replaced the failed item is no longer an issue and i will be ok to drive it till wednesday ?

anyone in the know able to help with this ? need the car for work everyday

As far as police are concerned your car has a valid mot until may 20th.
Why pay for another mot get the spring done elsewhere and take it back to them that done mot ]
Depends how badly you need to use your car it will be driveable but do it carefully dont be driving at crazy speeds

like i say the new springs will be fitted tomorrow s all good there

was just unsure if i can legally drive it after the springs are fitted intill next wednesday when it will have a re=test ?

It will be fine, as you are rectifying the fault and current one doesn't expire 🙂

You are still legal till the 20th , so if you have new springs fitted tomorrow nothing to worry about .It will then be to mot standard according to how it was tested by your station

i know you say the garage is busy but i would say if you ring them and say you have had new springs fitted(after you have the new springs fitted lol) they would get you back in asap for the retest, as i will be a case of popping his head under the car to see the new springs and then issue you with a new certificate. like everyone says your current mot covers you and you have been driving the car with a broken spring for some time anyway so it cant be that bad to drive either, mine failed on just a rear spring aswell, i fitted new springs within an hour and straight back for the retest.

90% of bmws are driving around with broken springs unless its really knocking i wouldnt worry to much about anything as for it being legal like others have said its fine untill the mot expires i doubt the police will even think to look at springs
