using oil ?

im using oil but not sure how, i had service and since, say at least 1 a week the msg check oil level keeps coming on, check level and it low, so top it up bout 1/2 ltr n it good for another week, ive checked and fix 1 leak but still having prob, any ideas welcome

Age and mileage of the car any signs of it burning blue smoke etc?

104,000 on a 02 plate, no blue smoke

If you haven't got any leaks then it must be burning it, quite common on these engines to burn a bit of oil when I had a issue many years ago Vauxhall would only look at my car if it used more than 1litre with 1000 miles.

Valve guides can get worn and stem seals as well as the rings getting gunked up, might be worth getting someone to view the exhaust while you blip the revs. See if there is any visible oil burning.

Also what oil are you using?

i knew it would use oil, but not 1/2 ltr a weekish yeah i will av some1 look at it, cheers for info, and its 5/30 full syn

5/30 is like water many on here swap back to 10/40 from 5/30 presuming its a fairly standard setup.

Mine used to drink it when I used 5/30 fully synth.

Mine didn't like 10W40. Now on 0W40 everything is fine.

Had a leak from the valve cover seal.

i used titan supersyn 5/30 an never used a drop but when i used cheap oil it used it quite quick. n mines only done 73000.

im gonna try castrol gtx 10/40 next week.

5/30 fully synthetic brand new engine 1000 miles covered
its used 0.15l in 500 miles

fully synthetic is like piss as said
and older engine should use gm 10/40 to keep the gaps close better just give the engine time to warm up before giving it stick on the 10/40 well you should with any oil 🙂

u should allways let your engine get to temp before thrashing it. defo agree on that.

castrol gtx at tesco is on offer at 3quid a litre. comes in 2litre bottles.
