MAJOR gearbox leak ?. HELP!!!

Hi guys im a new member but have been using this site for about a year or so now without signing up.
but now im in need off guidance or help please.
My z22se has a major leak. its 100% transmission fluid although i cant tell where from.
its booked in at the garage for fixing £90 supplied and fitted. the mechanic said it was something to do with the driveshaft (i think) but just wanna get some views as to any other problems with transmission fluid leaking. thank you :-)

has he said what hes replacing for £90

hello and welcome
from what i understand the f23 gearbox can leck in a few places
1, ether of the drive shaft seals
2, the case of the box where the 2 halfs meet with sealant

if its only £90 to cure the leak i would say thats a fairly good price on the work

thanks carl. answeres my question. ill let you know exactly what he fixes on wednesday and if its fixed the problem. thanks

My bet would be driveshaft seal, only a £5 part but the rest will be labour to remove shaft etc to get to it to change it and a top up.

i really hope its only that the leak on my drive and work is a little embarrassing lol. its not the automatic itss 2.2 5 speed. the mechanic said after phoning around a few places its only available from dealers. ill keep the post updated and let you all know what it is. thanks again guys

Yeah almost 100% driveshaft seal mine started leaking about a week after buying mine and I think it was about £10 I think

Yeah I got mugged of with the gaiter too I paid £60 from Vauxhall and there penny's on ebay

Worse thing was about a week old and the pad sensor wire wrapped round it and split it in half hence me finding one on ebay for penny's lol

glad to hear thats what it probably is. its a job i can do real easy myself but already booked in now.

right guys. ive dropped car off this morning and he told me its now 120 not 90.
ive just received a text from him saying car is ready to pick up but its still leaking.
i asked why and he replied its got a second leak coming from inside the gearbox. but its not something they fix there. is he ripping me off ? or am i looking at something more serious?. ill update when ive picked car up and see what he says. thanks

just got the car back. im assuming he replaced the driveshaft oil seal as he showed me the old piece he had taken out and pointed out the new one he replaced (which was on the end of driveshaft going into gearbox) the old one he said was definitely leaking as he showed me it was in bad order. to me it had fresh wounds on it so i suspect it was hit with an hammer as it was bent out of shape also. suggesting it wouldnt even have fitted around driveshaft and hes obviously as thick as what he thinks i am if he thinks i believed for one minute that it was legitimately knackered. anyway he now says the other leak is coming from the slave cylinder in the gearbox. he said it probably just needs a new o ring or something. but he wasnt prepared to do the work as to get gearbox off it would mean all the subframe would need to come off. my question is if anyone can shed any light is ive got a very good tool box and axel stands and trolley jack and im very competent in doing the job myself. is it easy and will i need a new slave cylinder or just the o ring and does the sub frame of the car have to come off and also what do i seal gearbox back on with ? gasket sealent or a gasket. all help and how to's very much appreciated thanks.

also car is 2.2 coupe z22se engine and positive its f23 gearbox. you probably know this already lol

yeh the old seal will show damage where it has been removed there tight fit and he probably used a big screw driver to pop the old one out i would 🙂

if the slave is leaking from the o-ring then it could be fixed with just an o-ring
but that said even with a multi layer halfords tool box its still a big job
you have to support the engine then drop the sub frame take the box off then fix the leak then put it back together
