I have a Zafira 05 SRI 2.2 petrol. When I accelerate I get a rasping noise the engine or exhaust sounds like a motorbike particularly at 2000 RPM. It also feels lumpy and when accelerating I feel as if the vehichle is being pushed back poor acceleration. No lights have come on the dashboard but the car just does not sound right. I think it could be a hole in the exhaust or gasket has gone on manifold.
The odd thing is the engine sounds fine outside the vehicle you only hear it when sitting in the car. The heat shield came off a couple of weeks ago. Fuel consumption around town is about 31-32mpg long runs I get about 45-47mpg.
Can anyone advise on what the noise is or suggest a good mechanic in the Newcastle area.
