Fiat 500 brakes

Got back from holiday this afternoon, and had a parcel waiting.

Made a start on getting the 500 back into shape.

Old disks were totally fucked, and the car has only done 15,000 miles.

They forgot to send the air filter in the kit I ordered, so oil change and engine stuff will be done another day.

The pads were replaced in October (1,000 miles ago)

Put a new set on with the new disks

Not a lot of meat left on those for 1000 miles of driving. Is it driven hard like a race car for that much wear and tear lol

No, those were the ones I removed in October last year. I replaced the pads only, but the disks were just as bad then. The pads I put on in October were contoured to the shape of the old disks face, so needed another new set.

Them discs are fubber.....see alot like that at work....only seems to be the ones fitted at the factory tho... our pagid one we fit dont rust like that at all

They must know that they are shite though, because they make them very easy to replace. Takes about 15 minutes per side, and that was with no instructions, and took my time on the first one, as the disk was seized to the hub.

I had to do a ball joint on a ford KA which was only a year or so old, had to replace the whole wishbone as they don't sell separate. Parts arrived and was badged as fiat. Turns out the ford KA and fiat 500 are the same chassis but with a different body shell on.

Aye, just don't expect ford to be able to do any work on the 500 even with their extended warranty, as they "can't read the codes" for it!

As said Matt them disc are in a real state for such low mileage as well!

Well the new breaks are bedding in now, and it's like a different car to drive. The passenger disc was actually warped, and was causing a bad vibration, and that has cleared up as well now.

Still waiting for the air filter, and then I can do the rest of the service.

That's good news, amazing when replacing one item rectifies a few issues 🙂

Went to do the rest of the service yesterday. Did the panel filter and the pollen filter.

Went to do the oil, got the engine up to temperature, and went under to undo the sump drain plug.......and it's a 12mm hex plug! I only have upto 10mm in my kit. Need to pop to Halfords and get a 12mm one now.

Finally finished the service on the 500 on Monday afternoon. Did the oil change, which it's a piece of piss to do. Old oil was like tar when it came out, so no idea if it was actually changed 18 months ago when Ford said they did it. It's only done 5k miles since we've had it.

I often doubt they do any service work on cars when they push them back out I know the Seats oil was jet black and thick and it had only done 13 miles from when they said they changed it.
